Our first ever 'Unicorn Diary' features palomino lover, Chanelle Hodge!
Otherwise known as 'Striding for Success' on Instagram and YouTube, Chanelle is a unicorn owner that we wanted to learn more about...
Describe a day in your life.
A typical day for me would be get up, have brekkie then straight to my horses' agistment property to feed them and clean their paddocks. If it’s my day off then I will work both of them.Depending on how hot it is, I might lunge them over some trot poles or ride. Every riding session always includes lunging for warm up and cool down, foundation work skills brush up, and whatever skill I pick to work on for that particular day, then finishing off with some stretches. Home for lunch then back out to feed them in the afternoon.
How many unicorns currently occupy your stables, and who is your favorite?
I own one retired ASH named Beau. He is kept at a friend’s property about an hour away, so I don't get to see him very often. Then there are the siblings Aramis and Panache; aka the golden gang. To be honest I couldn't pick a favorite. I love them all so much!
What is something that your unicorn does that makes you smile?
For Beau, it would be doing his many tricks, and my favorite would have to be when he plays fetch with the whip. Aramis does so many things that make me laugh! He’s just such a cheeky boy, but if I had to pick one it would be when he plays ‘tug of war’ with the lead rope when I'm taking him back to the paddock (he just hates when our play sessions are over). Panache is a big smoochie girl! She always makes me smile when she lets me hug her head and licks me at the same time.
What are your riding dreams/goals?
My riding dream is to be able to wake up every day and work with horses. I am currently trying to make my dream a reality and have some very exciting things to come this year, so make sure to keep an eye on my Instagram and YouTube. My ultimate riding goal is to compete the gold gang in eventing.
What are your favorite pair of Two White Socks, and why?
It’s so hard to pick a favorite pair, but if I had to it would be the 'Bristly Cacti' ones. I think the pattern is super cute! I just love how light, comfortable, thin and durable all the socks are. I'd also like to note that I never get blisters while wearing them!
